Summer Classes for Visiting Students

Summer classes

Are you a student at another college or university, staying in Memphis this summer and wanting to take courses? If you are, read on. This page will tell you what you need to consider and do.

1 What's Being Offered?

Visit the Class Offerings page to see what's being offered this Summer. If you have not yet applied for admission and received information on establishing your Username and Password, you will need to follow the "Class Schedule Search" link (under NO), If you have established your Username and Password, follow the instructions under YES.

2 Dates & Deadlines

Refer to the Summer 2008 Dates & Deadlines calendar for the admission deadline, first day to register, class begin/end dates, etc.

3 Transfer Credit or Not?
If you are taking a course for your own personal interest or benefit, then this step is not a great issue for you.
However, if you are you seeking to take a course here to satisfy a requirement at your university, check with your university to see if it will accept a U of M course as the equivalent of one of its own. It's up to your university, not the U of M, to determine if a U of M course will satisfy your degree requirements.

Your University will want to review the U of M course description to determine if it will accept the course as transfer credit. Our course descriptions can be found online:

If your University wants to see a course outline or syllabus, you will have to contact the instructor listed for the course, or, if no instructor is listed, the department offering the course. Refer to the department web page for contact information. Departmental web pages are listed on the Index of Majors, Minors, and Concentrations page.

4 Apply for Admission

Because you are not pursuing a degree at the University of Memphis, you are applying for admission as as a NON-DEGREE SEEKING student. This means that, once admitted, you will not have to be advised by a U of M advisor. However, it also means that you cannot actually register for a class until April 16, 2008.

Note: You must be in Good Academic Standing at your university in order to apply for admission to the University of Memphis.
