| A course should require 750 contact minutes for each credit hour. Thus, a 3-hour course requires a minimum of 2250 Total Contact Minutes. The figures presented below are based on offerings of 3-hour courses meeting at standard times. To determine if any other course offering (< or > 3 hours, or non-standard meeting time) meets the minimum contact minutes requirement:
- Refer to "Minimum Total Contact Minutes" chart above for the course's minimum requirement.
- Then refer to the table here. Identify your course's Meeting Days. Next, multiply (#Meetings per Part of Term) x (#Minutes per Meeting). If the product is not at least equal to the figure you got from the table above, then you must add meeting minutes to meet the minimum. Caution: if you must add minutes, be sure not to overlap another class meeting time and create a time conflict for students.
Note: If the course has a lab, remember that it takes 2 lab hours to equal 1 lecture hour. |
